Hours after it was revealed that Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes had welcomed their second child, the actor stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where he brought up a sweet story involving his "little girl" Esmeralda.

Kimmel brought up how their mutual friend Don Rickles had turned 90 on May 8. "God bless him," Gosling said of the legendary comedian. "He is such a lovely man. When my little girl was born, he sent me a gift certificate for Toys"R"Us. It said, 'Don't worry, you'll get another job. Kids are expensive.'"

Now, Gosling has another kid. The Big Short actor and his longtime girlfriend, Eva Mendes, welcomed their second daughter, Amada Lee Gosling, in Santa Monica, California, on April 29. The two kept the pregnancy under wraps until last month, when Us Weekly broke the news that she was expecting again. The stars were also incredibly private with Mendes' first pregnancy — with Esmeralda, now 19 months — back in 2014.

However, he didn't mention his newborn on Kimmel because he was more focused on his wardrobe. "I have to admit something," Gosling, 35, said as soon as he sat down beside Kimmel. "I didn't try this suit on before I came out, and I realize that it's so tight."

The mostly female audience cheered in response. "It's wildly inappropriate. I feel like I'm going steady with these pants," he continued. "I can't feel my calves. I don't know if that's good. I asked for it because I'm dressed this way."

Gosling, who stars opposite Russell Crowe in the new movie The Nice Guys, also recalled some funny stories about working alongside the Oscar winner. The Notebook hunk revealed that they were both "reprimanded by the studio" for not tweeting enough about their upcoming film — "apparently we're being crushed by Angry Birds" — and shared another funny bit about drinking way too much at a rugby match.

Gosling's appearance on Monday followed an eventful, celebratory Mother's Day. An eyewitness told Us that the doting dad of two and the Hitch actress rented out the entire Vista Theatre in Los Feliz for family and friends. "Ryan carried Esmeralda in and out of the theater in his arms," an observer at the venue told Us. "She had on overalls and her hair in pigtails."
