Savannah Guthrie is in baby heaven! The Today show co-host shared new pictures of her baby girl Vale during the morning program on Friday, Aug. 15 — and called in to talk to her NBC pals about her first few days as a new mom.
"I feel like life just started. I just can't get over the joy she brings — it's beyond words," the 42-year-old told Matt Lauer and Natalie Morales. "The moment she was born I cried — I look at her so proud and I can't stop thanking God."
Guthrie and husband Michael Feldman announced the birth of their first child on Aug. 14. "My 3am wake up call sounds a lot different now. Sweeter…" she teased via Twitter at the time.
All kidding aside, Guthrie couldn't be more in love with her little girl. "I'm a big ball of mush," she said Friday. "I couldn't sleep because I was so excited so they actually had to give me a little sleeping medicine." Luckily, however, she did sleep a few winks Thursday night. "I got a good night's sleep for the first time," she added. "Vale slept like the little angel baby she is."
Vale seemed to be on her best behavior when Lauer and Morales stopped by for a hospital visit, too. In a sweet picture, Morales posed next to Guthrie while Lauer held the little tot for the first time.
As for choosing Vale's name, Guthrie admitted it was somewhat of a last-minute decision. She and Feldman were shocked to hear that they had a baby girl because Today viewers had convinced her that a boy was on the way.
"All afternoon we were thinking of names and Vale was always on our list," she said. "So we just went for it."
