Exclusive: Scarlett Johansson's Mom Adopts a Baby Girl

Scarlett Johansson's mom, Melanie Sloan, has adopted a baby girl from Ethiopia, a source tells UsMagazine.com.
Sloan missed her daughter's Iron Man 2 premiere because she was en route to the African country to pick up her daughter, Fenan, who is 19 to 20 months old. (Johansson also has a older brother, Adrian, a twin brother, Hunter, and an older half-brother, Christian, from her father’s first marriage.)

Sloan was stranded in Germany for several days while traveling to Ethiopia because of the volcano ash cloud.
"The volcano put the whole adoption process in jeopardy due to time constraints," a source tells Us. "But it worked out in the end."

A rep for Johansson, 25, had no comment.
The actress and husband Ryan Reynolds, 33, may soon be following in Sloan's footsteps.

"I have every intention of adopting at some time," Reynolds -- whose older brother is adopted -- told UK Glamour last summer. "I'm very grateful for having my brother in my life. I couldn't be more pro-adoption. There are plenty of kids in the world that need it."

I'm sure Melanie Sloan adopted a child from Ethiopia as a publicity stunt to save her daughter's troubled marriage... as if a baby-adopted or otherwise- wouldsolve Scarlett and Ryan's problems...I mean Melanie already has grown children- what does she have to gain from adopting a 3rd world country child- except as a publicity stunt...with these celebs there is nothing heartfelt about what they do-its all for publicity...as for Scralett and Rtyan relocating to New Orleans that is just so Scarlett can keep an eye on Ryan-b/c he now has the hots for Blake Lively- who is a BIG improvement from ScarJo=I must say.I can't see Scralett,Ryan or their Alist friends staying in Lousiana for long- there's nothing to do there and they are both so high-maintenance and Hollywood...Plus,Scarlett has to finish getting tested for AIDS- she has until 2015 to complete her testing- she started testing in'05- and they have to be sure she is ABSOLUTELY free of the AIDS virus- and other diseases-before she can have her own children...so0 their planning to have 2 biological children in the next 5 years makes sense...but I doubt Scarlett and Ryan will last nearly that long as a married couple...anyway,Ryan must really LOVE the taste of Scarlett's diseased crotch and her silicone filled fake breats- that the only reason he married Scarlett...and stuck around this long... Ryan was apparently willing to wait until Scarlett was disease-free( like that will EVER happen)before having biological childrenw/her...but then again now that the novelty of sleeping w/ this little whore is wearing off and someone younger and hotter is starring in "green Lanternw/ Ryan... Scarlett is about to get a taste of her own medicine- to BE DUMPED by someone younger and hotter than she is...Scralett is already starting to put on weight and look frumpy...

What is your problem???? I agree with you.Every child regaudless of where he/she comes from deserves a home. To the people who criticize adoption is a personal decision made by a family or a single person. Just like I made the choice to go overseas for my children some people feel they need to adopt here. Foreign adoption are not buying a child.

Franky Some people can love a child who is of a different race. I have two sons one from Vietnam and another one from India. My daughters come from Liberia and Mexico.
Franky, did it ever occur to you that there are faaaarrrrrrrrr more black babies in orphanages and in foster care than white babies. In fact there are usually waiting lists for white babies. Courtney, why in the world would Scarlett's mom being adopting for the attention, she is not a celebrity.
I am sure that Ms. Sloan couldn't adopt within the United States because she is over the age limit. Also adopting is far more difficult within the USA and it is easier for single or older women to make an international adoption. I wish her well with the adoption and just hops that she will not push her new daughter into acting at such an early age.
Of course Scarlett looks like her mom.. They both have the high slanted back foreheads and similar nose and lips. Just hair and eye color is different. Her mom looks middleastern or Italian and of course they are Jewish so that may explain a lot of that.
WHY? aren't there enough babies in America? And why Black Baby, can you imagine the fallout if a Famous African American couple adopted a white baby?
adoption is a noble thing but I feel like maybe Ms Sloan did it for attention besides most hollywood marriages end badly anyway and for who ever said pregnancy ruins a womans body no it doesn't if that were true would Sophia Loren have tried again after two miscarriages and successfully had two sons me thinks not though she had her co-stars kids to lavish love on Nell & Lissy Newman for example

congrats about the adoption-I'm all for babies having a chance at aloving home-but I honestly dont think adoption is going to save the Ryan- Scarlett marriage-that marriage is already in trouble and they are not even out of the honeymoon phase yet
