Kristen Tripson, the woman who became pregnant through in vitro fertilization after her husband, Sam Tripson, passed away from stage IV lymphoma in September 2015, has given birth to a baby girl.
The Vero Beach, Florida, resident shared the exciting news on Instagram on Monday, October 24. “Hello world! Meet Lillie Belle,” she wrote alongside a photo of the sleeping newborn swaddled in a floral blanket. "Lillian Belle Tripson was born on Sunday October 23rd at 3:03am. 8lbs 5oz. 21 inches long. Jack and Alice Ann are so excited about their new sister. Everyone is doing well and happy to be settling in back at home.”
Back in April, Kristen announced on Instagram that she was pregnant with Sam’s child. The couple had previously gone through IVF and froze four embryos in 2012 before his first treatment for stage IV lymphoma. “Though we never talked much about ‘the end,’ we did talk about our embryos,” she wrote at the time. “It was always our plan regardless of what happened, that they would have a chance at life. .. Of course, it’s bittersweet. And yes, a bit unconventional. But it was our decision and what I consider to be one of life’s most beautiful blessings.”
Kristen said she knows it will be difficult to raise another child without her husband beside her. “I know this isn’t going to be easy,” she previously told Us Weekly. “I’m not scared. I’m so excited to meet this little person. It’s hard to process, but just having a chance to meet another one of Sam’s children, it just blows my mind.”
The mom of three said that she loves seeing bits of Sam in her little ones. “He was so funny and so silly,” she told Us after she announced her pregnancy. “I love it when I see that in my children now, because I worry, Oh, my goodness, I don’t want these kids to be exactly like me. But it’s amazing how his qualities are in them. … I get little reminders of Sam every day.”
