In 2008, Bardem dedicated his No Country for Old Men Oscar to his mother, Pilar, an actress who took her toddler son along when searching for work. "She gave me strong advice. 'You have to live the chances you are getting. This is the moment that can give you the opportunity to really improve yourself. But at the same time, the only way to achieve it is, as I did it or your grandparents did, is work hard. Respect your job. And take it seriously,'" Bardem told Parade of Pilar's words of wisdom.
