Haters gonna hate, hate, hate! Contrary to uproar last week surrounding a snarky tweet from actress Abigail Breslin, she told HuffPost Live on Dec. 16 that she has no issue with 1989 songstress Taylor Swift.
“Cuz darling I’m a nightmare dressed like an emotionally unstable cat lady,” the 18-year-old star wrote on Twitter on Dec. 11. Breslin’s tweet quotes Swift’s recent number one hit, “Blank Space,” which includes the memorable line “cause darling I’m a nightmare dressed as a daydream.”
Rumors swirled that Breslin’s tweet was a direct dig at Swift, stemming from the leggy blonde’s recent Twitter exchange with Breslin’s ex-boyfriend, 5 Seconds of Summer’s Michael Clifford. Breslin, however, insists that’s not the case, and the “cat lady” she was referring to, was, in fact, herself.
“What’s so crazy, I think that everybody that follows me on Twitter knows that I just got surprised with a kitten, a baby kitten, like a week ago, by my family,” she explained on HuffPost Live.
Breslin said the tweet was inspired after catching her appearance while doting on her new pet.
“…I was walking in my apartment, and I stopped in front of my mirror, and I had my hair in a topknot, and my glasses on, and no makeup on and a bathrobe on, with my cat and like a handful of its food, trying to give it medicine. I was like ‘wow my life, I look like an emotionally unstable cat lady.’”
The August: Osage County actress said she thought that people would understand the joke. “To clarify: my tweet earlier quoting a taylor swift lyric was me saying I AM AN EMOTIONALLY UNSTABLE CAT LADY. NOT TAYLOR. JSYK.” Breslin later tweeted on Dec. 12.
“That song is amazing,” the Oscar nominee said during the HuffPost Live appearance. “Everybody loves that song. Why would I be insulting it? Like, it was just so bizarre.”
“Taylor, I have no beef with you,” she said to the camera.
