In yet another post-AMAs interview, Adam Lambert says he didn't know he was going to grab keyboard player Tommy Ratliff and plant a full-mouth kiss on him during his now infamous racy performance.
"During rehearsal, I grab him by the hair and kind of just looked at him," he tells MTV News. "He's straight. He just, I guess, didn't mind getting kissed in the name of entertainment on stage."
As for the simulating oral sex on stage, the "For Your Entertainment" singer, 27, says, "That wasn't in the original choreography. I was supposed to look at him, and I just grabbed him. I wouldn't have done it if I didn't think he would have been cool with it. … It might look real forceful, but we all respect each other and were doing it in the name of the show."
In an interview on CBS' The Early Show Wednesday, Lambert says people are picking on him because he's "a gay male." He also said that if he had been "a female pop performer doing the moves … I don't think there would have been nearly as much of an outrage."
Janet Jackson grabbed a male dancer's crotch, he noted.
"I didn't hear one peep about that…" he said.
His message to fans?
"This is one song, one production number…" he said. "I hope people don't put me in a box and say, 'Oh, he's nasty and he's going to be that way all the time!' It was one performance."
