But isn’t she rolling in the deep? Adele revealed during a Sunday, July 31, show in San Jose, California, that her credit card was declined during a recent shopping trip at budget-friendly retail giant H&M.
“I went to H&M and my card got declined,” the 10-time Grammy winner — who Forbes recently ranked as the ninth highest-paid celebrity in the world, earning $80.5 million in 2016 — candidly shared with the crowd. “Oh, my days, pretty embarrassing.”
“Nobody knew it was me,” Adele, 28, added of the cringeworthy moment. “But I was mortified.”
Despite her immense fortune, the British songbird has a penchant for inexpensive stores such as H&M, CVS and Target — where she has been frequently photographed at during the U.S. leg of her Adele Live 2016 tour.
Back in February, Adele was spotted at a Target in West Hollywood. The mom of Angelo, 3, who she shares with partner Simon Konecki, browsed through the toy aisles, presumably picking out gifts for her little guy.
In between songs at her San Jose concert, Adele told fans that her favorite things to do the minute she steps foot in California are grab a bite to eat at In-N-Out Burger and go spend her hard-earned cash at Target.
"They have everything!” the “Hello” songstress raved. “Literally I spent $100 on stuff I do not need, I never need anything I buy at Target, but it's amazing.”
