To the left, haters! When commenters attacked Adidas for sharing a Valentine’s Day photo of a same-sex couple standing toe-to-toe in matching purple and pink sneakers, the label immediately fired back — and in the classiest way.
The original snap, which was posted to Instagram early on Sunday, February 14, read, “The love you take is equal to the love you make.”
Some former fans of the brand took issue with the post. One commenter wrote, “Shame on you Adidas! I’m going to Nike now.” Another added, “This day is for boy and girl, when they are couple. Not for lesbians.”
Adidas wasn’t having any of the hate. Responding to the homophobic blasts, the label commented on its own post to add, “No, this day is for LOVE. Happy Valentine’s Day,” with a lipstick kiss emoji.
Since then, tens of thousands of people have added their own comments, showing their support for Adidas and noting that they now feel even more inclined to buy shoes from the brand.

Adidas first showed the LGBT community its support by releasing the “Pride Pack” — three Adidas staple pieces remodeled with rainbow details — during Pride Month last June.
The company also just announced that it is adding a clause to its contracts with celebrity spokespeople. The clause promises that if an athlete chooses to reveal him or herself as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender, the person’s contract with Adidas would not be changed or terminated.
