Making their voices heard. Green Day slammed President-elect Donald Trump at the 2016 American Music Awards during a heated performance of their 2016 track “Bang Bang” — which you can watch in the video above.
For the politically charged number, the band’s lead singer, Billie Joe Armstrong, tweaked the song’s lyrics and repeatedly chanted, “No Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA.”
Green Day previously spoke out about Trump, 70, during the 2016 MTV Europe Music Awards on Monday, November 7, just one day before the election. They changed the “subliminal mindf–k America” lyric of “American Idiot” to “subliminal mind-Trump America.”
The band’s vocal opposition to the business mogul turned politician seems to be a direct response to the anti-LGBT, anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant and racist rhetoric he encouraged throughout his controversial campaign.
In response to Green Day’s AMAs performance, Twitter lit up with passionate — and divisive — messages.
“#GreenDay Great performance at AMA’s… No Trump, No KKK, No Fascist USA! @BJAofficial you rock!!!” one fan wrote, while another tweeted: “Green Day on the AMA’s was absolute perfection. #Greenday.”
However, several Trump supporters were not impressed.
“Who cares what @GreenDay screams during their performance. They peaked 25 years ago. Lol #Losers #AMAs#GreenDay,” one wrote, while another fired back: “Oh my another band who hasn’t been around in YEARS to try and make a come back! #GreenDay #losers #AMAs.”
Though Green Day may not be a fan of the future POTUS, Trump praised them and their award-winning Broadway show, American Idiot, in a newly unearthed April 2010 tweet.
Melania and I saw American Idiot on Broadway last night and it was great. An amazing theatrical experience!

“[My wife] Melania and I saw American Idiot on Broadway last night and it was great,” he enthused at the time. “An amazing theatrical experience!”
