Amy Schumer shared during an interview, conducted by Lena Dunham for Dunham's Lenny Letter, that she still gets emotional thinking about the two women who were shot and killed during a July 2015 screening of Trainwreck, in Lafayette, Louisiana.
“It still f–king kills me,” the comedian, 35, said Friday, September 2, of victims Mayci Breaux and Jillian Johnson. “I might cry a little bit talking about it, but it is fine.”
Schumer said thinking about the women taking time out of their lives to go see her first major role affected her personally.
“Knowing it was my movie, and … that they went and they bought tickets and wanted to go see this movie, it just crushed me,” she explained to the Girls star, 30. “I felt so powerless. And it felt a little bit like something that I had done, that there was a connection to me actually hurting people.”
Schumer added that she was “so upset” and “f–ked up by it,” but that she found comfort in her pal Jennifer Lawrence, who sent her a joke text message the following day.
“That day she texted me, ‘It’s your fault.’ And in times like that only jokes make you feel a little better,” Schumer recalled.
As previously reported, gunman John Russell Houser, 59, opened fire at the Grand 16 movie theater during the comedy, killing the two women and injuring nine others before committing suicide.
