Amy Schumer doesn’t wish any ill will towards her abusive ex-boyfriend, despite the fact that she once feared for her life during their relationship.
During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live on Monday, September 26, the funnywoman talked candidly about her past relationship, which she detailed in her recently published book, The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo.
“I changed enough about him that I hope that he’s not as easily pinpointed,” Schumer told host Andy Cohen about her anonymous ex, who allegedly threatened to kill her. “You date someone when you’re young and I have love for him and I wish him the best. I just wanted other people in my situation to know they’re not alone and know it could happen to anyone.”
In her eye-opening memoir, Schumer recalls falling victim to a physically and emotionally abusive boyfriend, who she tried to leave twice.
“I was screaming for him to stop, when he grabbed a butcher knife from a drawer,” she recalled in the book of the horrific moment when he allegedly tried to stab her. “And that’s when I was sure he was going to kill me. It may sound cliche, but I saw my life flash before my eyes.”
The Trainwreck star, 35, also claimed in the tell-all that her ex once shoved her onto the hood of a parked car, injuring her head and elbow.
“It can happen to anyone,” she wrote in the book. “You’re not alone if it’s happening to you, and you’re not exempt if it hasn’t happened to you yet.”
Schumer has been happily dating Chicago-based furniture designer Ben Hanisch since January — and she’s already close with his family.
“His parents are the sweetest people. They are from the Midwest. Like, they’re just the happiest,” the star told Howard Stern of meeting Hanisch’s parents. “His mom [Deborah Hanisch] always seems like she was just called down as a contestant on [The] Price Is Right …. She sends me nice notes. They’re just the loveliest people.”
