Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s marriage was the most casual thing ever — well, the legal part of it at least. During an interview with The New York Times, Jolie recalled how casually she and Pitt decided to spend forever together.

“It was just a nice thing,” the By the Sea actress said of what it was like to finally tie the knot with Pitt in August 2014. “For me, the big moment was when [we] signed the [joint adoption] papers for Maddox and Zahara. That was a decision to parent together, to commit to being a part of each other’s lives for the rest of my life. So [marriage] wasn’t close in comparison. In a way, it was very casual.”

In fact, when they got their marriage license prior to their ceremony, it was equally as nonchalant.

“The ceremony was in France, but we had to do things legally in California,” Jolie, 40, explained. “One day I was in the edit room, and [Brad] was doing something and an assistant said, ‘You have to sign some papers.’ So we came back and between meetings we were told, ‘Here’s your license.’ Then someone said, ‘The judge is outside.’ We both said, ‘What do you mean, the judge is outside?’ Then the judge came in, this lovely guy, and at some point, Brad said, ‘Shouldn’t we be standing up?’ The judge said, ‘No.’ Then suddenly we realized we were married, in the most unceremonial way possible."

The supercouple’s union was a big deal to fans, however — and their six children.

"It was important to us that the day was relaxed and full of laughter,” the couple told Hello! magazine at the time. “It was such a special day to share with our children and a very happy time for our family.”

As previously reported, the couple wed in a small ceremony in a chapel in Chateau Miraval in France and Jolie, who wore a dress with her children’s drawings on it, was walked down the aisle by her sons Maddox, 14, and Pax, 11. Zahara, 10, and Vivienne, 7, were flower girls and Shiloh, 9, and Knox, 7, were ring bearers.
