Star Trek star Anton Yelchin died at age 27 after a car accident in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 19. In the wake of his death, several celebs took to social media to mourn the loss of the Russian-born actor.
As previously reported, police told Us Weekly that Yelchin was fatally injured when he was pinned between his car and a mailbox at his home in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The actor’s Charlie Bartlett costars and close friends Kat Dennings and Tyler Hilton posted heartbreaking messages on Twitter shortly after news broke on Sunday afternoon.
“Anton Yelchin was one of my best friends,” the 2 Broke Girls actress, 30, wrote. “Can’t say anything that conveys what this feels like.”
Hilton added, “I just heard about my sweet, sweet talented friend #AntonYelchin and his horrible accident. I’m in complete shock. He had far more to say…”
Zachary Quinto, who plays Spock in the Star Trek reboot series, shared a touching message via Instagram.
“Our dear friend. our comrade. our anton. one of the most open and intellectually curious people i have ever had the pleasure to know,” he wrote. “So enormously talented and generous of heart. wise beyond his years. and gone before his time. all love and strength to his family at this impossible time of grief.”
Karl Urban, who starred alongside Yelchin in the upcoming film Star Trek Beyond, tweeted, “I can’t believe it , I m fckn hurting bad !”
Director Guillermo del Toro, who was set to work with Yelchin on the upcoming Trollhunters series, was also stunned by the news.
“The sweetest, most humble, delightful, talented guy you’d ever meet,” he wrote. “Worked together for about a year. Shocked.”
The screenwriter added, “Anton was a sweetheart. Absolutely a great creative partner and artist. As far as I am concerned, 2016 cannot end fast enough.”
