Mildred Baena has finally come out of hiding and broken her silence.
Last month, the former housekeeper for the family of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver became an infamous household name overnight when it was revealed that Schwarzenegger was father to her son, now 13.
Posing with Joseph (who bears a strong resemblance to his actor-turned-politician dad) for the UK's Hello magazine, the resurfaced Baena says she finally told her son about his real dad a year ago.
Joseph's response, she says: "Cool!" The pre-teen is looking forward to forging a stronger relationship with Schwarzenegger, 63.
The Guatamala native reveals that she wasn't initially sure if her former employer was Joseph's father. "As Joseph grew and I started to see the resemblance that I wondered – but it became more apparent as time went on."
If the Terminator star wondered about Joseph's paternity, he didn't let on, she says. "He never said anything to me."
Her other boss Shriver, 55, began to get suspicious as well, Baena explains. "She would say things like, 'I'm here if you need to talk.' I sensed something was up. I have so much love and respect for Maria."
When Shriver finally asked "point blank" about Joseph, the aftermath was emotional.
"She was so strong," Baena marvels. "She cried with me and told me to get off my knees. We held each other and I told her it wasn’t Arnie's fault, that it takes two."
Although Schwarzenegger and Shriver have both reportedly hired divorce attorneys, Baena hopes, somehow, their 25-year marriage can be saved. "He's a good man and I know he's suffering too. He loves Maria. I hope with time they work things out."
