Well, that’s one person we never thought of. Beyoncé has kept the world guessing about who she’s referring to when she sings about “Becky with the good hair,” but one of her hairstylists has a theory: It’s Kris Jenner!
Anthony Pazos, who worked with Queen Bey for her most recent VMAs and Superbowl performances, told DailyMail.com on Friday, November 18, that “it makes perfect sense.”
Beyoncé, 35, famously told her lover to “call Becky” in her scorned-woman breakup song “Sorry” (off her Lemonade album), and since its April release, fans have speculated that the woman with the luxe locks was designer Rachel Roy, Rita Ora or Rihanna, among others.
But no one had mentioned the momager’s name. Until now.
“The rumors while we were working were that the one line ‘Becky with the good hair’ is Kris Jenner,” Pazos told the Daily Mail, adding that the lyric was not about Beyoncé’s husband Jay Z, 46, hooking up with Jenner, 61.
Pazos said that the context of “Sorry” related more to the couple’s many business dealings than anger over an affair. Regardless, Pazos plays along in the interview to hypothesize about the likelihood of a Jay Z/Jenner hookup.
“The funny thing about it is that no one believes that because they are like, ‘Jenner is older — why would Jay Z do that?'” the stylist said.
“But if you think about it, it makes perfect sense,” he continued. “In the way that if you were going to be with … someone that they know interpersonally who has the same amount of money that they do, and so that’s the ‘rumor’ that was going around on our production while we were working with Bey. Take what you want from that.”
While the idea of good hair usually brings to mind visions of long, flowing tresses, Pazos said that Jenner, who has a signature cropped look, “does have good hair, and ‘Becky’ always refers to a white woman in the African American community. Becky is a generic white name for somebody — a white girl.”
Jenner, who filed for divorce from husband of 22 years Caitlyn (formerly Bruce) Jenner in September 2014, has been dating Corey Gamble, 35, for two years.
Pazos said that the Kardashian matriarch and Jay Z were drawn together because of the hip-hop mogul’s friendship with her son-in-law Kanye West, but he also admitted that members of Beyoncé’s inner circle had whispered about Jay getting close to other women.
“If you listen to her album, it’s very telling to what she was feeling about those particular circumstances,” he said mysteriously. “If you listen to the words you know. She doesn’t talk to us about it.”
