Country strong. Blake Shelton opened up about fellow songwriter Joey Feek’s emotional cancer battle during an interview with Entertainment Tonight on Tuesday, Nov. 10.
“The courage that they as a family have displayed. It’s inspirational. It’s sad, but it’s special at the same time,” the Voice coach, 39, said. “. . .To see what they’re going through as a family and what’s happening with Joey, what can you say?”
As previously reported, Joey, 40 — of the country-bluegrass group Joey + Rory — was diagnosed with stage IV cervical cancer in 2014. She’s recently decided to stop treatments, and is now in hospice. Her bandmate and husband, Rory Feek, gave an update on her terminal condition in a blog post on Monday.
“Sometimes there just aren’t enough surgeries — or doctors — or chemotherapies — or prayers,” Rory, 39, wrote. “And you have to wipe the tears from your cheeks and say the words that you were hoping to never have to say. . .Enough.”
Joey and Rory married in 2002 and founded their group in 2008. They are parents to 21-month-old daughter Indiana. Rory is also dad of daughters Heidi and Hopie from a previous relationship.
