Uh, as if! There’s no Cher Horowitz like Alicia Silverstone, but in a new video from W Magazine, some of Hollywood’s top stars try to fill her iconic Clueless pumps.
The funny clip is an “audition” for the role, using lines from Cher’s famous debate from the 1995 film, in which she compared the Haitian immigration crisis to her father’s garden party.
“I’d like to preface this by saying that what was unfortunate about reading through this for the first time — and I would just also like to say that I just got this — is that I realized that I talk like this, which is a bummer,” Jake Gyllenhaal tells the camera.
Then actors Gyllenhaal, Bradley Cooper, Seth Rogen and Paul Dano proceed to channel their inner Cher and read the funny lines.
Silverstone, now 39, played the unflappable high schooler in the hit film, which updated Jane Austen’s Emma for the ‘90s crowd. It’s difficult to imagine anyone else in the role, but director Amy Heckerling recently revealed that Oscar winners Reese Witherspoon and Gwyneth Paltrow were also in the running to play the teen queen.
“I met with Reese because everyone said, ‘This girl’s amazing. She’s going to be huge.’ I saw some movie where she had a Southern accent. Maybe it was on TV, a movie of the week. But I did see some scenes of hers and went, ‘Wow. She’s amazing.’ But Alicia is Cher,” Heckerling recalled this past June, a month before the movie’s 20th anniversary.
