Brittany Murphy's Husband "in a Daze" as Paramedics Tried to Save Her

As firefighters worked to resuscitate Brittany Murphy Sunday morning, her husband, screenwriter Simon Monjack, was "literally in a daze," Murphy's West Hollywood neighbor Claire Staples tells UsMagazine.com.
Monjack was in pajama bottoms and no shoes and looked "like he didn't know what was going on," Staples tells Us as his wife (who was found unresponsive Sunday morning in their bathroom) lay on a stretcher.

"They were pumping her heart trying to resuscitate her," Staples tells Us. "Then they brought her to the fire truck. They went to get paddles and were putting tubes down her throat."

But Staples says it seemed too late.
"She was really yellow," she tells Us. "They were holding her head back to keep the tube down her throat. She looked dead."

Staples recalls seeing Murphy's mother at the scene as well.
"She was carrying clothes for her," says Staples. "I don't think she realized how bad it was."
Murphy, 32, was pronounced dead at 10:04 a.m. at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
An official cause of death may not be determined for some time, since toxicology tests will be required, but "it appears to be natural," L.A. Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter tells Us. He said an autopsy is set to take place in the next two days.

78I've read she was sick with flu like symptoms for a few days before her death. Why didn't he take her to the doctor? Maybe if she had medical attention in the days prior to her death she'd still be alive. I agree this guy looks like s%*t, but she said on Letterman "Humour means everything to me" so I guess she looked past his looks.

of course he is in a daze. he got woken up at 7 am with his wife dying or dead. hellp im sorry he wasnt all mr fancy pants at 7 am for all you haters. leave him alone. she obviously wasnt forced in to marraige and she chose him. period. have some respect people.

well i wuoldnt know what was going on either if i was awoken from my sleep with the fact that my wife is dying or dead. give him a break people jeez. he was just sleepping. im sorry that he wasnt all fancied up for you at 7 am.
Expected: Anorexia in itself does not cause a heart attack. Losing weight does not cause the heart attack. When you put the weight back on, it puts a strain on your heart. Karen Carpenter had begun to get better but her heart was so damaged from the weight loss, vomiting (trauma), laxatives, that her heart failed. For Brittany, she was taking numerous medications. Maybe that did it. Until the toxicology reports come out no one will really know. RIP to Brittany and condolences to her husband, mom and family. Such a shame.

who gives a crap who and what her husband looks like? its not about him its about her and who she was R.I.P
jesus people. He might be "scruffy and fat and not the greatest looker" in the world...but he ended up with a much better looking woman than ashton did. And he didnt need an ounce of fame to accomplish that. Funny how that works. Thats almost as funny as Hef getting better looking women than ashton. I dont like judging guys I dont know but everything I read about this guy's past adds up to shady. I hope i'm not falling for gossip rag lies. I swore i'd never do that.

He is disgusting!!! Seems very creepy. Can't believe Brittany's mother didn't step in sooner. It was obvious she was weak and frail. Her mother should be questioned along with her husband. Shame on them!

Brittany's husband seems a bit sketchy to me. Even though there was no foul play involved, I cant explain it. And jennifer, the anorexia part is true & she was REALLY skinny recently

He is a slob but obviously she loved him, right? My heart goes out to her family. She is a very "shiny" person. We could all learn some inner vibrancy from her.
My bet is on anorexia induced heart failure. She was becoming so skinny and it was very noticeable. Anorexics are quite prone to heart attacks (think Karen Carpenter). Just another sad Hollywood casualty.

I am sorry to hear about her death. She was amazing, cute and bubbly. One thing I will never understand is Simon...I guess she saw something in him that the rest of the world didn't. He's kind of creepy to me.
I believe this picture was taken when he was hospitalized last month. There is no reason for him to be wearing a hospital wrist band since his wife was the in the hospital.
I dont know who is in this picture, but it surely looks like a patient at a hospital. That is a major HIPPA violation!
