On Friday, the LAPD released audio of the 911 call placed around 8 a.m. by Sharon Murphy -- mother of actress Brittany Murphy, who died suddenly on Dec. 20. (Listen to audio of the tape here.)

Sharon discovered her 32-year-old daughter unconscious in the shower at the Hollywood Hills mansion Brittany shared with her husband, Simon Monjack.

In the heart-wrenching call, the anguished mother cries as she speaks with a 911 operator, who tries to calm Sharon down and attempts to relay instructions to Monjack to try and resuscitate Brittany via compressions.

"She's passed out!" Sharon cries. "We're doing mouth to mouth. Please get here quick! Please hurry!" Sobbing, she adds that her daughter is "not awake and is not breathing."

As Sharon and Monjack apparently move Brittany's body for the compressions, she says that Brittany "just threw up tons of stuff, tons and tons of water."

At one point in the disturbing call, Sharon begs "Brittany please come back!"

Although Brittany remains unresponsive throughout the call, the operator instructs Sharon and Monjack to continue the compressions until an emergency team arrives.

After being rushed to L.A. Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Brittany Murphy was pronounced dead at 10:04 a.m. Her official cause of death -- foul play is not suspected -- has been deferred pending toxicology and neurological tests. The actress was buried on Dec. 24 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles in a small, private funeral attended by family and friends.

In reply to Stef, I didnt realise they release all these calls. I still think its dispicable and serves no purpose though, other than for Ghouls to listen to but thanks for the heads up. I live in the Scotland (hence not being aware of the US way) and the only tapes like this that would be made public are Celebrities and the High status ppl which is deemed inappropriate but obviously we have Ghouls here too. Although they may release all these tapes, at same point not many of them would be used for entertainment purposes. A member of the public grieving would probably not have to hear the call unless through choice and would not have to deal with the world hearing it when its their pain thats being used as gossip.

You may check out or tell your- friends.

  • January 10, 2010 - 10:07pm How about all the fat people who die of all the junk they put in their body via cancer or heart attack, stroke, etc.

I love how people are almost blaming Brittany Murphy for her death before knowing anything. I'll bet a lot of fat people are typing away while shoving a Big Mac in their mouth. Or smoking, or drinking or texts and drives, etc. And if you are not guilty of any of this, someone close to you is guilty of self destructive behavior. Fat people kill themselves 100 times more than skinny. Smokers kill themselves 100 times more than skinny. Remember that. How would you like it if when someone you loved blamed them or when you die it goes into your obituary that you ate too much junk. RIP Brittnay. Look after your Mom. Be her angel.

Anorexia and drugs. Exactly. Hollywood does this to aspiring actresses and the rest of society follows suit. Girls. Wake up. It is NOT worth it. Brittany was so pretty before all this self destructive behavior did her in. Do not think you have control. You do not. There is no shame in getting help. There are tons of clinics and compassionate professionals to help you. No mother or father should have to endure such a preventable death of an offspring. My heart goes out to Brittany's family.

This tape was so sad please take it down.

  • January 10, 2010 - 7:14pm Brittany's mother is not a celebrity. Does the editor of US Magazine not have a heart

Whoever's decision at US Mag it is to keep this tape up - must not have a soul. Her mother does not deserve this. She is not a celebrity. How would you like it if YOUR mother was taped as her child died.

  • January 10, 2010 - 5:50pm Grief is not Funny

I'm not Brittany Murphy's mother, but to hear the tape of her discovering that her daughter has died is BEYOND inappropriate! Take the post down! She has more than enough grief already!

I agree with the other comments, but look at the picture above, all i see is anorexia and drugs...

  • January 10, 2010 - 2:42pm A mother's pain when losing her daugther is not entertainment - Please take this down US Magazine.

No one finds pleasure from Brittany Murphy's mother's pain! Please take the tape down.

I agree with the other comments. You should take this down. If People can have the respect to than you should to! It is horrible and LOW that you would post this! Have some respect for the family for once! These tapes should never be released like this b/c then tabloids (US WEEKLY INCLUDED) use it to boost their ratings and it is disgusting and very sad!

  • January 10, 2010 - 11:55am kelly_barcelona

I'm sure, anorexia killed her. I'm not going (and I don't need) to listen that shamefull audio tape. Respect her memory and her mother's pain!

  • January 09, 2010 - 11:24pm Sophia

That recording was absolutely heartbreaking! It should not have been publicly released. This whole situation is just so sad.

  • January 09, 2010 - 11:13pm ali-cat

Seriously, US, some gossip is fun and some celebs deserve the coverage they get but this tape doesn't even involve a celeb. It's a mom losing her kid and you're posting it for no other reason other than for those with sick, morbid curiosity. Please remove! Grow some conscience.

  • January 09, 2010 - 8:43pm Sheiza

This is soo disrespectful!!! I love this magazine but please remove this!!!

  • January 09, 2010 - 8:22pm Jess

Please take this down!!! It is very very very private and it pains me to even see this being put up R.I.P Brittany we miss you!

  • January 09, 2010 - 8:10pm oll

    that was so sad...

  • January 09, 2010 - 7:38pm Annoyed

This article is sooo sad...it's so pathtic that ppl would actually want to hear that 911 phone call. Something like that is private and should be kept private. Us Weekly...please...please take it off..it shouldn't even be allowed to be heard. Please have some respect for the decreased and their loved ones. It's hard enough for brittany's mom to let go, she doesn't need for this phone call to be public!!

  • January 09, 2010 - 6:47pm JL

You should take down the audio- People magazine finally did. It is not necessary and low, even for US magazine! You are exploiting something very painful and someone who is not in the public eye nor expected to be (Brittany's mother) - her call to 911 is not fair game!
