UPDATE: The Carolina Panthers’ official Twitter handle tweeted an update around 2:30 p.m. ET, saying, “Cam Newton is in fair condition and undergoing tests at Carolinas Medical Center and will remain there overnight for observation.”
Original Story: Carolina Panthers fans are holding their breaths, praying for the speedy recovery of quarterback Cam Newton after he was involved in a serious car crash in Charlotte, N.C., on Tuesday, Dec. 9.
The 25-year-old athlete was driving his Dodge Ram pickup truck when he collided with another vehicle, causing his truck to flip over multiple times, eyewitnesses told ESPN. The local paper, The Charlotte Observer, has an office close to the scene of the accident, and posted pictures on Twitter of the football star lying on the ground but awake.

A rep for the Panthers spoke to ESPN about the incident, saying in a statement, “We are closely monitoring the situation of a car wreck involving Cam Newton. We will have more information at an appropriate time.”
