Catfish couple Lauren Meler and Derek Shullenbarger got engaged on the Season 2 reunion of the MTV show

A Catfish wedding is on the way! Lauren Meler and Derek Shullenbarger from Season 2 of the series got engaged on the reunion show this past week, thanks in large part to creators Nev Schulman and Max Joseph. And as Schulman reveals to Us Weekly, the unexpected proposal wasn't so shocking after all!

"I did know it was coming, as did Max," the 29-year-old host revealed to Us. Indeed, he helped pay for the ring! "Max and I bought Derek the engagement ring so that he could propose because he needed help paying for it," he explained. "We went with him that morning and it was really sweet."

Meler and Shullenbarger turned out to be one of the few success stories from the series. After talking on MySpace for eight years, Meler enlisted the help of Schulman and Joseph to see if she was actually being catfished by the Maryland native. The result? Shullenbarger was exactly who he said he was!

"I'm really impressed by them. The last year of their live has been, certainly Lauren's life, has been very complicated," Schulman said of her troubles to Us. "She got into a terrible car accident, and because she was in an accident she had to stop working."

He added: "She's got a lot going on and they've managed to figure out how to live together and make this work."

The Texas native also shares custody of her son, Mason, with her ex-boyfriend and suffered a miscarriage after 10 weeks of pregnancy with Shullenbarger's baby in late September.

As for their upcoming nuptials, Schulman won't officiate, but assumes he will definitely be in attendance. "Oh yeah, I don't see why we shouldn't make an episode or a show about it," he exclaimed. "And get all the cast and other people from the show."

Catfish's Season 2 may be over, but awareness on cyber security isn't. October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month. For more information, go to stopthinkconnect.org.
