Selena Gomez, Lindsay Lohan, Demi Moore — the list goes on of celebrities who have claimed “exhaustion” as the reason behind their meltdowns and stints in rehab. But is exhaustion really a medical condition? Find out in this edition of Us Investigates!

According to the World Health Organization, medical exhaustion is a real consequence of various conditions, including heat and overexertion — but is this what sent Lohan to rehab after she spiraled out of control in 2007? According to Dr. Angelique Campen — who has never treated LiLo — not necessarily.

Dr. Campen of Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Los Angeles tells Us that she doesn’t believe that exhaustion is an actual diagnosis. “Exhaustion can represent a more serious medical illness, but it can also sometimes be a coverup,” she explains.
