Video: Chaz Bono: “Nothing Scares Me” About Life as a Man

Celebrity News November 19, 2009 AT 11:35AM

It's challenging enough to put yourself -- and your friends and family -- through the process of gender reassignment.

Chaz Bono -- formerly Chastity, the first child of Cher and the late Sonny Bono -- had the added difficulty of going through it in the public eye.

In a new TV interview with Good Morning America's Chris Cuomo, Chaz, 40, says that being Sonny and Cher's kid created an "incredible hurdle" in his journey. "I wasn't going to be able to do this privately like most people can," he says.

Although he makes no mention of his famous mother or girlfriend Jennifer Elia, he admits that "dealing with the people in my life" was an additional obstacle.

Today, he says that he feels "more comfortable now that I've ever been" when looking in the mirror. "And there's more to come."

Bono also gives a glimpse into his confusing childhood. "It was really clear -- I felt like one of the boys. My friends were boys, if there was a game [that was] boys against the girls, I was with the boys."

"Absolutely nothing scares me now," Bono adds. He an Elia have been in a relationship for three years. "I feel really grateful to be going through this with a partner," Bono told Mary Hart recently.

Sweetie that's because no matter what you will always be a woman

Chaz, have you managed to alter your DNA? No? Well then, you're still a female and always will be.

I'm still trying to figure out how she went from being a Lesbian for 20 years to being Transgendered. I'm not sure SHE knows what she feels. Instead of fixing the body, she should have fixed the brain. She's going to need to take drugs all of her life to maintain her 'manliness'. I don't get how her Lesbian girlfriend is OK with her former Lesbian lover being a man. IF I'm not mistaken a Lesbian is a woman who is attracted to other women. Now that the womanly parts are gone, does that mean Chastity's girlfriend is no longer a Lesbian either? Maybe both of them are crackpots. I'm just asking. Chastity gives transgenders a bad name.

Well she/he can do and be what ever make's them happy. It is still against GOD because he chose Chasity to be a girl not a boy. His/her blood is still girl blood and she is and will continued to be a female no matter what she/he does to their body..

I'm happy for her that she is finally comfortable in her own skin. It's not my right to judge what is right for her and her judgment can only be decided by God not me. But i DO have to say, it irks me that all of the sudden she's a "he". No...she's still a she....just a much more comfortable she.

Not sure sure I understand the whole changing sex thing.....but if thats what Chaz wants to do........it is his body.......so be it. Not something I would ever consider for myself...........but hey.........Iam not him.! Looking back at the videos.........she was soooooooooo cute when she was little!

Man or woman, it still isn't cool to be that overweight. Seriously Chaz, drop some lbs!

  • November 19, 2009 - 2:04pm Shut Up Already

Why does stuff like this have to be broadcast all over the place? Sounds to me like "Chaz" or whatever it is this week, is looking for attention, or he/she would have done this privately. Geez, Maybe I should let the newspaper know the next time I get my teeth cleaned.

That thing is disgusting. If you want to play dress-up and pretend you are a guy, at least try to be a somewhat attractive guy. This is just wrong, in so many ways!

  • November 19, 2009 - 1:18pm makesmesick

This is wrong on so many levels. God sees you as he made you, as a woman...you can't trump that! Thank you liberal media for allowing this woman to spew her immoral agenda.

  • November 19, 2009 - 1:12pm anonymous

she isn't blaming her playmates, she is saying that she related more to them than the girls. why is it impossible to be happy for someone? Have an opinion, yes, but don't be a B*#&H about it.

  • November 19, 2009 - 12:58pm Maureen

I'm very ignorant about the transgender community, but I have to say that was a pretty brave thing to do to make that transformation in the public eye.

  • November 19, 2009 - 12:41pm Anonymous

I am female all my friends were boys from age 5-18. I still have guy friends and relate to them much better. That being said, I am a girlie girl/ tomboy that can drive a semi, lay wood floors, fix my own vehicle, etc. So, quit blaming your playmates. If anything, because you were such a pretty little girl, that was why you had so many guy friends and became a tomboy. And she is still a SHE and will never be a HE as she wasn't born one. God decides your sex, not you or a surgeon.
