Chelsea Handler has publicly bashed stars like Angelina Jolie and Taylor Swift this week, but the Chelsea Lately host settled her so-called beef with TV journalist Matt Lauer when she appeared on Today March 4 to promote the third season of her semi-scripted E! series, After Lately.
"Thank you for ending this simmering feud that we apparently had going," Lauer, 55, told the comedienne. He then joked, "I have so many feuds going with so many people right now I can't even remember exactly what we were feuding about."
Handler responded, "I realize that. You're very controversial. You're worse than I am, actually. You have a worse reputation than I do."
Earlier this year, Handler made a joke at Lauer's expense in reference to Al Roker's revelation that he once "pooped" his pants at the White House.
"This isn't the first time a Today show cast member was in the news about this sensitive subject," the 38-year-old joked on Chelsea Lately. "For years it was common knowledge that Matt Lauer spent every morning sh-tting all over Ann Curry." Lauer's former co-host Curry, 56, was fired in June 2012 amid a nasty off-camera rivalry.
Handler didn't see the problem with her joke, though executives at Comcast — which owns both E! and NBC — were none too pleased. "I was just making fun of you or Al or somebody and then it got carried away," the New Jersey native said on Today. "And apparently the NBC brass had to come and talk to me and say, 'Back off of Matt Lauer.'"
