Every superhero needs a lair, and it looks like Captain America has found his. Chris Evans, who has played the Marvel comic book character in Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers, recently purchased a new house in the Hollywood Hills for $3.52 million, real estate site Zillow reports.
According to property records, the 31-year-old actor was part of a bidding war for the 4,599-square-foot estate. First sold for $1.9 million in June 2012, then flipped and listed in February 2013 for $3.5 million — Evans paid an extra $20,000 on top of that — the 1940s-era residence has a pool, a spa, four bathrooms, and three bedrooms, including a master suite with a dressing room and a steam shower. The kitchen features high-end appliances and Italian marble counters.
Zillow reports that the home is completely walled and gated, which should suit the star’s famously private nature. In May 2012, he told Details magazine that he had often dreamed of a life of solitude and even considered turning down the Captain America role for fear of becoming too famous.
“For a long time all I wanted for Christmas were books about outdoor survival. I was convinced that the woods were calling me,” he said. “I camped a lot, I took classes. At 18, I told myself, if I don’t live in the woods by myself by the time I’m 25, I have failed.”
When he’s alone out there, he explained, he feels most like himself. “I’m a lunatic,” he told the mag. “I sing. I dance. I do crazy sh-t.”
Evans — who previously dated Jessica Biel and rekindled his romance with ex-girlfriend Minka Kelly last year — purchased his current Hollywood Hills home in 2007 for $1.26 million, Zillow reports. He’s now preparing to reprise his superhero role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, due in 2014.
