Guys, chill. Chrissy Teigen got into a Twitter war with fans on Friday, July 22, over her use of the phrase “clean eating” — but the food enthusiast got the last word.
Early in the day, Teigen, 30, tweeted out a poll asking her followers what the theme should be for the new cookbook she’s been brainstorming. (The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue model has already penned Cravings, which she released last year.)
When a fan asked Teigen why she chose to shy away from the term diet, the supermodel responded, “I dunno. I’ve always had an issue with the word diet. I like ‘eating light’ or clean eating … I dunno why!”
Her response triggered an entire flood of responses, with naysayers criticizing her misunderstanding of the phrase “clean.”
“‘Clean’ doesn’t = healthy. Clean eating is a myth,” one angry user tweeted at Teigen. “No scientific support or objective definition.”
The notoriously witty Teigen shot back a hilarious string of replies. “OK everyone relax, I’m not a nutritionist and by clean I mean ‘not Velveeta,’” she wrote. “Clean, to me, is something without 1000 ingredients With words I can pronounce. I didn’t mean to be #PROBLEMATIC.”
“I feel like even potato chips can be considered clean. Olive oil and sea salt, bake? No? Oh well,” she continued. “Also, everyone who has read Cravings knows I love Velveeta. Balance, balance, balance.”
This isn’t the first time Teigen’s outspoken tweets have made headlines. Earlier in the week, she called out rumors that she and fellow Sports Illustrated model Kate Upton are feuding because their partners don’t get along.
“If this isn’t the dumbest and most random s–t I have ever heard lmao @kateupton,” the new mom tweeted at Upton, 24. Though Upton didn’t directly respond, her fiancé, MLB pitcher Justin Verlander, chimed in with a quip of his own.
“@chrissyteigen Whewww… Glad you cleared this up!” the athlete tweeted. “I was worried someone I haven’t met yet hated me.” Verlander included two crying laughing faces and tagged Upton and John Legend in the tweet thread.
