Devastated. Former Voice contestant Christina Grimmie was shot and killed following her concert in Orlando on Friday, June 10, and her tragic death has sparked an outpouring of condolences from her fans and famous friends. She was 22.
“Christina was such a loving, caring, beautiful person with the biggest heart,” the band Grimmie was performing with, Before You Exit, tweeted shortly after her death. “She was an absolutely incredible musician and an even better friend. We are so saddened by her passing and are completely heartbroken.”
“Words fail to describe how much Christina means to all of us,” the statement continues. “She was always a constant beam of light and energy into the hearts of everyone around her. Her care-free spirit and her laughter constantly lit up every room she entered and she always had this glisten in her eyes which was evident in her faith. While we know there is no sort of feeling that can replace the joy Christina brought into our lives, we know she is glistening from up in Heaven and shining down on all of us.”
As previously reported, the YouTube star, who finished third on season 6 of The Voice in 2014, was signing autographs at the Plaza Live Theater when a man walked up to her and shot her. Grimmie’s brother Mark tackled the man, who then shot himself, Orlando police confirmed. Police are still investigating the motivation behind the shooting.
“Her brother is a hero for saving and stopping him from not hurting anyone else,” a police spokesperson said.
The singer was rushed to a hospital in critical condition and died several hours later.
Stars like Demi Lovato, Tori Kelly and Colton Haynes have since taken to social media to pay their respects to the bubbly singer.
