Corey Haim will be buried in his native Toronto next week - and his family is asking fans to help cover some of the cost.

"Due to the unexpected expenses of transporting his body to Canada for final resting, a fund has been set up to help his family," reads a statement on his official website.

Haim died Wednesday at age 38. Though his mother Judy has said he suffered pulmonary congestion, L.A. County Coroner Assistant Chief Ed Winter tells UsMagazine.com: "We did an autopsy. We gave his mother some preliminary findings but it does not mean it is the final cause of death. The final cause of death is pending toxicology and other reports. We did discuss issues involving his heart and lungs. We are not going to comment on specifics until the final results come back. It could be up to six weeks."

Haim's longtime pal Corey Feldman told CNN's Larry King earlier this week that Haim -- who filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 1997, listing debts for medical expenses and more than $200,000 in state and federal taxes -- was "very broke, very destitute. Feldman said he was living with his breast cancer-stricken mother in a "month-to-month living" complex in Los Angeles.

Feldman said Haim was so broke he "didn't even have a car."

how sad for his life to end in such terrible way. He had so much at his feet all he had to do was say no. It is scary how many people in hollywood cant handle the blessing that they have been given & check out behind drugs. One CAN overcome addiction if u put ur mind 2 it, I did.

Wow I am really surprised at how some people don't have respect. Corey Haim was a talented actor who suffered from addiction. What if his family and friends read this? How would you feel if he was your friend? It still amazes me that people can be so calus and cold.

  • March 19, 2010 - 1:34pm Corey_is_a_loser

80's heartthrob turned addict, overdoses on prescription drugs that he bought from a prescription drug ring. He died a loser. Now his parents seek donations from his fans? Geesh, Corey -- even in death you're a loser. LOL

It is a shame that there was not enough left from his acting career to even pay for a proper funeral. I cannot even believe the frequency of recent celebrity deaths and all seemingly brought about by extreme enabling and irresponsible access to prescription drugs. The law needs to come down hard on doctors who obviously did not take their oath very seriously (like Conrad Murray w/ Michael Jackson) and on enablers who are the driving force behind their "friend's" downward spiral (like Howard K. Stern w/ Anna Nicole Smith). We are in a bleak situation and it won't get any better until the law makes an example of a few of these slimey characters.

Prayers to the Haim family. This is the ultimate in unacceptable, a cremation through the National Cremation Society can be purchased for around $1000 (alleviate the funeral home all together, use good common sense, be respectful), churches will always allow memorial services, most for a donation to the church, say at most $500. In lieu of flowers request donations to the church's memorial fund or other church organization. It's the gathering of friends, remembering special times and speaking loving words that matter most. Not spending more to say 'good-bye' than to be born.

Corey Haim. Terrific actor with Amazing talent. People,We are made to believe actors and actresses and twelve feet tall and bulletproof. They are real people with real problems. I think Corey burned so many bridges with so many people that it just wore people down. I know Corey Feldman exhausted every option trying to help him. He did the best he could. Hollywood probably saw him as a non credible person. Corey was just too far gone and its sad. Such talent and now he is gone. It goes to show that people in hollywood dont have it made. All of the money and glitz, here today, gone tomorrow. Can you imagine being so broke that you cant even be buried unless there is funds donated? I couldnt imagine. My heart goes out to Corey Feldman who's strength is incredible. He has lost his very best friend. I do however think Susie Feldman should be banned from any memorial for Haim.,She treated him like dirt. Has anyone spoken to Corey Haims girlfriend from Europe? People this guy deserves to be in peace no matter what he has done. Corey Feldman and Haim Family, Your in our Prayers. Corey was taken too soon from us,.May he sleep with the angels.

Hey hun... you're in the wrong place. Sober up, get your lazy fat a$$ off the couch and live your own life.

Hey Dutchie, they were living in Canada until he got offered the Two Corey's gig. His mom came to be with him, keep an eye on him while he was doing the show. They earned their living by appearing at conventions, etc. Who are you to judge? What kind of parent are you? Addiction is a disease and he was a sick guy doing the best that he could. Have some compassion.

  • March 15, 2010 - 1:15am astrochicks.com

I think people should not be so judgmental. Addiction is a horrible disease, he was battling his demons and trying to help his mom who had breast cancer. Funerals are expensive, they obviously didn't have money and if people want to give let them. RIP Corey, we still love your movies.

Why is she asking for money? There is another article online saying the City of Toronto or somebody is giving his mother $20,000.00. The headline is 'City of Toronto paying for Haim Funeral' or words to that effect.

  • March 14, 2010 - 11:52pm Shawn

How ironic is it that Haim's website has the famous Van Gogh painting 'Starry Night' which was painted from the window of an insane asylum in Saint-Remy, France. Get real! The guy was pathetically troubled. Loved his movies, but come on people. Seriously? They can't come up with funding for his burial. I can think of much better things to support rather than a saddened substance abuser's funeral.

  • March 14, 2010 - 11:23pm jack

  • March 14, 2010 - 10:48pm Michelle

Thuis makes me so sad. I have to say, Corey was the same age as me and I grew up with him. License to Drive is one of my all time favorite movies. So sorry to see him go. Too young. Please stop doing drugs people. The governments want everyone sedated and confused. Look at the results! We losing an entire generation to this.

  • March 14, 2010 - 8:58pm penskip9180

So what your saying is we only help those we judge to be worthy of help? Well you have a right to pay out to whatever you want but so does everyone else, thats what those guys and girls are fighting for over there or have you forgot? No point in fighting for a country that slowly losing sight of humanity. This guy fell by the way side and any decent person would not be so callous and cold hearted as some of yous are being. No one live is more valuable than the next. He wasnt always a drug addict and a actor, first and foremost he was a human being with feelings, its about time some of yous started acting like ones too. You think his family doesnt deserve help because he was flawed, well I would take a troubled soul over the souless anyday.
