TIME magazine's hotly-debated cover of a woman breastfeeding her 4-year-old son isn't the first time "breastfeeding" has made the headlines! Remember when Gisele Bundchen announced there should be a "worldwide law" mandating that all mothers should breastfeed?
Here, Us Weekly looks back on some of the most memorable celebrity quotes on breastfeeding.
The 40-year-old mother of three joked during an acceptance speech at CinemaCon on April 26 that she's "always breastfeeding" and rarely acting. When Garner told her mother she won Female Star of the Year award, her mother asked, "Can they take this back? Because every time I talk to you, you are breastfeeding, you are running car pool, you are on the library committee -- you are not acting!"
"I thought, you read all of the stuff in magazines like, 'Oh, I breastfed my baby and I am so skinny now,' " new mom Fischer, 38, told Us Weekly at the 18th Annual SAG Awards. "I am breast-feeding my baby and I am not getting any skinnier!"
The supermodel and wife of Tom Brady made headlines in August 2010 for an interview she gave with Harper's Bazaar UK. "Some people here (in the US) think they don't have to breastfeed, and I think 'Are you going to give chemical food to your child when they are so little?' I think there should be a worldwide law, in my opinion, that mothers should breastfeed their babies for six months." Bundchen, 31, suggested law was widely criticized and she later clarified her comments on her blog. "My intention in making a comment about the importance of breastfeeding has nothing to do with the law," the mother of one wrote."It comes from my passion and beliefs about children."
The 31-year-old may love being an Aunt to her sister Kourtney Kardashian's son Mason, but she opposes public breastfeeding. "Ew I'm at lunch, the woman at the table next to me is breastfeeding her baby with no coverup," the reality star tweeted in July 2010. "Then [she] puts [the] baby on the table and changes her diaper."
"It's traumatizing!" Kourtney Kardashian, 33, who is currently pregnant with her second child, said of stopping breastfeeding when Mason was 15 months old in March 2011. "He just stopped asking. It's really sad, but it's natural."
How did Celine Dion get her body back after having twins? Breastfeeding! "You get busy with twins and you feed them so they help you to recover very fast," Dion, 44, told Canada's Etalk in March 2011. "So I helped them help me."
"I am breastfeeding and pumping," the 29-year-old model/wife of Orlando Bloom told Sydney's Herald Sun on how she balances being a mom to son Flynn. "When I am at work, I am pumping. I feel like a milk maid, but it is worth it."
