Dakota! Fifty Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson made David Letterman surprisingly uncomfortable and blush during her interview on Tuesday, Feb. 17, and it all had to do with her famous mother Melanie Griffith.
“My mom on the way here — I was on the phone with her — she told me to tell you she loves you,” Johnson, who stars in the raunchy S&M flick, told Letterman. “And she really meant it.”
Letterman, with a giant smile on his face, then replied: “And here’s something I will tell you — your mom used to come on the show all the time and I really loved your mom.”
After the two exchanged coy looks, things then quickly escalated.
“She brought you handcuffs one time,” Johnson said, before blatantly asking: “So are you my dad?”
The question — understandably — surprised the late night host, who then exclaimed, “Whoa! Boy!” before telling the star and audience, “Nah, course you’re just kidding. That’s just a joke.”
For the record, Johnson’s real dad is Griffith’s ex-husband Don Johnson, but the Working Girl star did appear on Letterman’s show back in 1988, after she split from Johnson in 1976 and before she remarried him in 1989.
