The 41-year-old comedian and Bell, 36, have been vocal about his past struggles with substance abuse.

"He knows the value of things. He was an addict for many, many years and he pulled himself out of it, and he's been sober for 11, 12 years now," the Bad Moms star told CBS Sunday Morning in July. "And he knows how many times he's messed up and how many times he's been really close to losing everything."

In April, Shepard revealed that he was sexually abused as a child, causing trauma that he believes later led to his addiction issues. During an interview on The Jason Ellis Show, he said he’d been molested at the age of 7 by an 18-year-old neighbor. "It was minimal," he recalled. "But even at that, it took me 12 years to tell anyone that."

Shepard and Bell dated for six years before tying the knot in 2013.

"Our relationship wasn't perfect," the actress told Entertainment Tonight in November 2015. "We had a couple years of fighting and of growing pains and hating each other, then loving each other and going to couples therapy and we worked it out. … We earned each other."
