In the new issue of Us Weekly, Rumer Willis --daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis -- opens up all about her family, her career, and her past insecurities

Whatever that magical X factor is, Rumer has it — in spades. As a contestant on the 20th season of Dancing With the Stars, Rumer Willis has two-stepped out of her famous parents’ shadows and into her very own spotlight. Her road to the top hasn’t been easy, though. In the new issue of Us Weekly, the eldest of former power couple Bruce Willis and Demi Moore‘s three daughters opens up all about her family, her career, and her past insecurities.

Growing up, the 26-year-old soul singer endured years of public bullying from people she didn’t even know. “‘Potato Head’ was a term that everyone used,” she revealed on a recent episode of DWTS. The mean comments took their toll, leading to what she calls an “unhappy existence.”

“I was just so insecure with who I was that I kept trying to change myself to fit into what I thought everyone wanted,” she tells Us.

Moore, 52, felt her daughter’s pain. “The tabloid bullying all three of my children have experienced, especially in their teens, has truly been painful,” the G.I. Jane actress shares with Us exclusively. “No child should be subjected to that type of judgment or criticism, especially based on their looks…As a parent, all you can do is love them and keep loving them until they love themselves.”

Mission accomplished. Willis, who will next appear in the thriller Return to Sender, is now a confident, poised star-in-the-making — and Moore couldn’t be prouder.

“It is thrilling!” she gushes to Us. “I am so proud of her and excited for people to be seeing what I have seen since she was a little girl. She is incredibly talented, and I love seeing her light shine!”
