Looks like Brooks Laich has Derek Hough's seal of approval! The DWTS star has spoken out about sister Julianne Hough's recent engagement — and says he "couldn't be happier" for her.
Julianne, 27, announced her engagement to pro hockey player Laich on Tuesday, Aug. 18 with a cute Instagram message. "We are overwhelmed with joy and excitement to share with you our recent engagement!" the Dancing With the Stars judge captioned a photo which showed her staring at her amazing new ring and embracing he future husband.
"[I’m] so excited," Derek told the Insider at the 2015 Industry Dance Awards on Wednesday, Aug. 19. "We actually spent the week at the lake house and all the family was there, the kids, nieces and nephews. And we spent the most magical, amazing week together and then at the very end [they] got engaged," he added. "He’s a great guy, I just couldn’t be happier for them.”
Derek then went on to reveal that Laich was very traditional in the way in which he went about asking for Julianne's hand in marriage — even asking permission of their father, Bruce. "He went to my dad," Derek continued. "They locked themselves out on a deck — they were out there for a good two hours talking so I kind of had an idea," he said. "I was like, 'Oh, ok. I see what’s happening!'"
Julianne has promised to keep fans updated on her wedding plans via Instagram, and even wants to get advice from her 1.8 million followers as she plans her big day.
