El Chapo’s Escape From Prison Caught on Security Footage: Crazy Video

Didn’t even break a sweat.

Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman is still on the loose four days after escaping a maximum security prison. On Wednesday, July 15, footage of his elaborate escape was released for the first time.

The chilling clip shows Guzman alone in his cell. After appearing to tie his shoes while sitting on his bed, he calmly walks over and disappears through a hole located in his shower floor.

Guzman, 60, has been labeled public enemy No. 1 since the alarming incident. After escaping through the hole, he then allegedly climbed down 30 feet, and traveled through a secret mile-long tunnel. Authorities later found a motorcycle on the rails before beginning their manhunt.

“If he went out that tunnel, it was with an armed escort, most likely a mix of prison guards and his own people, if the past is prologue,” author Don Winslow said, via CNN. (Winslow previously wrote about Guzman in his novel “The Cartel.”) “My bet is that he went out the front gate, and the tunnel was a tissue-thin face-saving device for Mexican officials, the motorcycle a dramatic improvement over the laundry cart.”

The cartel kingpin has escaped from prison before. In 2001, he managed to leave a prison by hiding in a laundry cart. Thirteen years later, he was finally caught while sleeping at a Mexican beach resort.

According to CNN, 34 people have been questioned about El Chapo’s latest breakout. The Mexican government is offering nearly $3.8 million as a reward for any information on his whereabouts.
