Four People Killed at Australian Theme Park on Thunder River Rapids Ride

Four people were killed while riding a water attraction at the Australian theme park Dreamworld in Queensland on Tuesday, October 25, the Associated Press reports.

Police and investigators at Dreamworld on Oct. 25, 2016, in Australia’s Gold Coast, where four people have been confirmed dead following an accident on the Thunder River Rapids ride.

Per CNN, two men (ages 35 and 32) and two women (ages 42 and 38) were on a fast-moving circular raft on the Thunder River Rapids Ride when it flipped on a mechanical section of the track near steel rails. Two people were ejected from their seats and the other two were stuck on the ride.

A Queensland Ambulance Service officer could not clarify whether the two left on the ride were trapped under water or caught in the machinery. According to CNN, police were called because “a number of people had been injured by a conveyor belt.”

Employees of the park tried to help, but all four victims died at the scene. Gavin Fuller, acting senior operations supervisor for Queensland Ambulance Service, said that workers are “deeply affected by this terrible accident.”
