Gene Simmons Proposes to Shannon Tweed After 28 Years Together

After 28 years together, KISS bassist Gene Simmons and his Playboy Playmate girlfriend Shannon Tweed may finally make it official.
On Tuesday's season finale of the couple's A&E reality series, Gene Simmons' Family Jewels, the rocker, 61, gets down on bended knee to propose to the mother of his two children.

"I come with so much baggage, but you're the only friend I've got. You're the only one I love...and you're the only one I ever will love," Simmons told Tweed during a recent vacation to Belize, according to advance show excerpts obtained by E! News. "I've never said those words to anybody. And I don't ever want to...funny, I used to watch movies where they say I can't live without you, but for me it's true. Please marry me."

While fans will have to wait until Tuesday's episode to see if Tweed, 54, accepts, the rocker's proposal is a definite deviation from his earlier views on marriage.
"Marriage means nothing to me. Happiness means everything," he once said. "All I see in marriage is a lot of desperately unhappy people."

On Twitter Monday, both Simmons and Tweed played coy as to if they're engaged, though Simmons did post a telling message, proving that his love for Tweed is stronger than ever.
"Tomorrow night I put Shannon before everything," he wrote in reference to his TV proposal.

I think about their two woderful kids. They are almost grown , and love their parents dearly, and want them to make it really happen by getting married. Gene does need a new doo to celebrate a major milestone in their lives.
i'm really glad he has finally asked her. i think it all stemmed from her walking off the joy behar show that night when they were on. she finally put it to him & on national tv. good move shannon!!! i'm very happy for u! i also want to add that i enjoy the show & y'all's kids are really down to earth & quite normal. the two of u have done a great job raising them! i wasn't sure how i'd like ur show until i saw it, & i just love it! it's way better than ozzy & sharon. and i feel that they didn't do such a good job in raising their kids, either.
Its about time after all these years. But just because there is a ring on her doesn't mean he is going to change his ways over night. But I do like the show also..
I think Sophie and Nick are happy now too and Gene will get more respect.
Gene seemed very sincere. Shannon i hope you say yes. Besides Tracy really wants to plan the wedding. I think he has finally realized what you mean to him and has done a lot of growing up.

well this certainly smells of 'scripted and staged for a tv show'.
His first comment about only seeing unhappy people in marriage is because he wanted to do whatever he wanted, with whom he wanted and in MOST marriages no one is going to allow that unless it is an open marriage. Now that Shannon said she is tired of his ways and is ready to leave now that the kids are grown he is feeling differently. His own children played a big part in this and they also were tired of his ways. I hope she says YES.
Because they were on the verge of breaking up. She was sick of his philandering ways and he knew he was going to lose her if he didn't finally make a real commitment.
Why now? They have lasted longer than most married couples(60% divorce rate in US) and and have two grown,well-rounded children. I don't get why she's whining all of a sudden about this.
Why even bother at this point - 2 kids and 28 years later? Pointless. He's such a disrespectful a - hole, God only knows what she saw in him besides his wallet and that monster tongue. Doesn't every woman want a man who states publicly that he doesn't believe in monogamy and has a sex tape with a hoo ker?
I love this family, and I LOVE this show! I' so proud of Gene, he finally realized what he had to do to keep his beautiful Shannon and his lovely children together as the family we all know and love...
