Does George Lucas know what it means to retire?

The Star Wars creator, 68, tells Empire he's getting ready to take a permanent vacation -- but he's said the same thing in both 1983 and 2005, according to The Huffington Post.

"I'm moving away from the company, I'm moving away from all my businesses, I'm finishing all my obligations and I'm going to retire to my garage with my saw and hammer and build hobby movies," Lucas tells Empire. "I've always wanted to make movies that were more experimental in nature, and not have to worry about them showing in movie theaters."

It may be a while before he's able to do that. Lucas -- who is worth an estimated $3.2 billion -- still has several projects in development, including a potential fifth film in the Indiana Jones series.

Lucas -- who has been dating Ariel Investments president Mellody Hobson, 43, since 2006 -- most recently executive produced the movie Red Tails, starring Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Terrence Howard.
