Gerry Goffin has died at the age of 75. The lyricist, and Carole King's ex-husband, passed away at his L.A. home on Wednesday, June 18, according to the New York Times. His wife Michele Goffin confirmed the news.
Goffin and King married in 1959 and wrote more than 50 songs together. Some of their hits included "Crying in the Rain" for the Everly Brothers, "Pleasant Valley Sunday" for the Monkees and Bobby Vee's "Take Good Care of My Baby." In 1985, Goffin wrote "Saving All My Love for You" for the late Whitney Houston.
Goffin and King divorced after nine years of marriage in 1968. Almost two decades later, they were both inducted together into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
"Gerry was a good man with a dynamic force, whose words and creative influence will resonate for generations to come," King, 72, said of Goffin.
She continued: "His legacy to me is our two daughters, four grandchildren, and our songs that have touched millions and millions of people, as well as a lifelong friendship." (King most recently attended the 2014 Tony Awards in NYC on June 8. She performed with the cast of Beautiful, the musical based on her own life.)
Goffin is survived by his wife and five children.
