Are they or aren’t they? Gilmore Girls fans were sent into a tizzy on Thursday, January 21, after actress Keiko Agena shared a photo of herself with Gilmore Girls producer Helen Pai via Instagram with a cryptic caption.

“With the REAL LIFE Lane Kim, Helen Pai,” she captioned the snapshot, in reference to her onscreen character. “Good things are coming…”

Agena, 42, played Lane Kim, the best friend of main character Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel), on the beloved series, which ran for eight seasons before coming to an end in 2007. It launched on the WB in September 2000 before moving to The CW in September 2006.

The fictional Kim is believed to be based largely on Pai, who was good pals with Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino — a connection that was not lost on fans of the series.

“We missed all of you soooo much .., can’t wait!!!” one fan commented on Agena’s photo.

“All of your fans and fans of GG are sooooooo excited,” another wrote. “It’s a wish come true!”

Murmurs of a reboot of the mother-daughter drama (which also starred Lauren Graham, Scott Patterson, Melissa McCarthy and Jared Padalecki) began last fall after reports surfaced that Netflix was in talks to pick up a revival of the show.

On Sunday, January 17, Netflix’s Chief Content Officer, Ted Sarandos, noted that the video-streaming site can’t yet confirm that the series is green-lit.

“I can’t tell you much about Gilmore Girls,” he told reporters at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. “We’re still working on buttoning down everything before our announcements.”
