Gwen Stefani’s life with Gavin Rossdale and their three sons, Kingston, 9, Zuma, 6, and Apollo, 17 months, was everything the Voice coach wanted and more — until their marriage failed, that is. According to a source close to the singer, 45, Stefani tried to make her union work with the Bush frontman, 49, but just couldn’t fight the inevitable anymore.
“Of course Gwen is upset,” the insider tells Us Weekly following news of the couple’s plans to divorce. “She really gave it her all and tried to make it work as hard as she could for years. She was in love with him and they had the family she always dreamed of."
Stefani and Rossdale, who announced in a joint statement to Us on Aug. 3 that they were ending their marriage of 13 years, are now focusing their energy on the children.
“Stefani’s primary focus is making sure the kids are okay,” the insider tells Us. “They are trying not to fight around the kids and keep the kids’ world as undisturbed as possible. She is trying to make it as easy on them as she can.”
The parents are seeking joint custody and plan to divide their assets equally given they did not have a prenuptial agreement.
As previously reported, Stefani has had time to prepare for this moment. Another insider previously told Us that the soon-to-be-exes split “was a long time coming.”
