“Getting that attention feels good,” Stefani, 46, told the men’s magazine of the recent demand for interviews. “I feel quite defensive about my record. It’s like, ‘Well this is my life, so what are you going to say about that? I’m just telling you what happened. That’s it. You can’t even judge it, or I’ll be mad at you!’”

Stefani said she released the album so fast, it was almost like it was happening in real time. “This time around I was like, I’m not going to waste my time watching Say Yes to the Dress and going online and looking at stupid gossip or dumb stuff that means nothing to me. I have to get this out,” she said.

The mom-of-three wanted to channel her heartbreak over her messy split from Gavin Rossdale this past summer into her third solo album, but it turned into more of a falling-in-love record after her whirlwind romance with fellow Voice coach Blake Shelton began. “I wasn’t thinking. I was feeling and I was dying. And then I was like, ‘You can’t go down like this! You have to turn this into music. You have to try, at least,’” the “Used to Love You” singer told the magazine.

She explained that in a lot of her early recording sessions, she wasn’t allowed to write until she got the perfect combination of people to support her. “It was an amazing awakening,” she said. “I walked into the session and I was like, ‘You gotta know, I don’t care about anything except the truth right here.’”

She also revealed that she did all the doodles of hearts, flowers and tears for her album artwork. “Some of it was my real journal, like in the background, ” she said.

Stefani has seemed happier than ever spending time with Shelton, 39, and her three sons whom she shares with Rossdale — Kingston, 9, Zuma, 7, and Apollo, 2. The No Doubt frontwoman shared Snapchats from a hike in Oklahoma with the country singer and Apollo on Monday, March 21. This past weekend, Stefani took all three sons to a friend’s wedding on Saturday, March 19.
