Darlene Egelhoff, who famously disapproved of daughter Heidi Montag's drastic plastic surgery, has fallen on hard times.

Struggling to make ends meet since her restaurant closed after 21 years, Egelhoff now cleans houses as a maid in her native Crested Butte, Colo., she tells Inside Edition Thursday.

Egelhoff admits that some of her new employers recognize her from The Hills. "That's very humbling for me and I very much appreciate that experience because I don’t ever want to get full of myself and think I’m too good to do anything," she says.

The reality mom -- who constantly butted heads with Montag's husband Spencer Pratt -- says her famous daughter, 24, has no idea about her financial troubles. She and Heidi haven't spoken in nine months -- when Heidi debuted her new face and body in a tense visit to Crested Butte shown on The Hills.

In a desperate attempt to get back in contact with Heidi, Egelhoff has even launched a personal blog, Metamorphosis of a Mother, in the hopes of Montag reading it.

Heidi should be the maid. Disgusting.

To Lisa Kidd: Someone is going to beat the crap out of Heidi....her husband! He is a violent, mentally unstable jerk who talked her into surgery just so that he could keep her in the public eye. Because without her, he's a nobody and everyone hates him. But, she went back to this fool and will live to regret it. Her mother is better off without her until she can rid herself of this jerk. While they are together, everyone around her is in danger of his explossive temper!

That's just wrong not to help your moms when you have all this money. That's a disgrace. Give your mom some money you greedy JERK!!!!

Nothing wrong with honest work and if being a made keeps the roof over her head - great. But it's sad Heidi doesn't talk to her own mother. People shouldn't take each other for granted.

At least she's working. What is Heidi doing lately? Probably nothing.

Why would someone need to beat the crap out of Heidi? It's not her job to financially support her mother. It would be nice of her, but she isn't obligated. And I doubt she could even if she wanted to, probably still paying off her medical bills.

So sad. I don't condone violence but someone should beat the crap out of Heidi.
