Hope Solo was seemingly out of control during her domestic violence arrest in June 2014, new police documents obtained by ESPN reveal.
The soccer star, who was arrested after getting into a physical altercation with her half sister Teresa Obert and her nephew last year, had to be tackled to the floor by police and verbally insulted officers while being booked at the jail, the reports reveal.
“You're such a bitch. You're scared of me because you know that if the handcuffs were off, I'd kick your ass," she yelled at one officer while at the station after having to be taken “to the ground to gain her compliance,” the police report states. Solo also reportedly called another officer a “14-year-old boy” and mocked his salary, telling the officer that her necklace, which he had asked her to remove, cost more than he made in a year.
Solo claimed on Good Morning America in February that she was “a victim of domestic violence at the hands of [her] 17-year-old nephew, who is 6’9” and 280 pounds,” but Obert’s son’s account in the report is vastly different.
According to the documents, Obert’s son had called 911 explaining that his aunt was “going crazy and hitting people.” The teen was found crying and had a bleeding cut on his left ear while his jawbone and arms also had marks on them. “We just let her back into our lives,” he explained to police of his estranged aunt. “She always does this.”
Obert told police in her own statement that Solo, who had “drank a lot” that night, got into a confrontation with her son and then started “punching” him on his head. “My sister was on top of my son punching him. I then tried to pull my sister off of my son and my sister then punched me in the face several times,” she recalled.
Solo’s case was dismissed by the Kirkland Municipal Court on procedural grounds. Since then, prosecutors have filed an appeal with the Superior Court of Washington and are scheduled to file their argument by July 13 before a Sept. 11 hearing.
