Iman Opens Up About 24-Year Marriage to David Bowie on ‘Oprah: Where Are They Now?’

Eternal love! Iman opened up about her 24-year marriage to her late husband, David Bowie, in an interview taped before the iconic musician’s death on January 10, for an episode of Oprah: Where Are They Now?

The supermodel and the “Space Oddity” rockstar tied the knot in 1992, and have a 15-year-old daughter, Alexandria Zahra Jones. Sadly, Bowie passed away at age 69 after a private, 18-month battle with cancer.

Though the Somalian stunner is a style icon herself, she says she never tried to give her late husband any outfit advice. “People say, ‘Do you give him fashion tips?’” Iman said, laughing, in the clip. "What, are you crazy? We’re talking about David Bowie. He is fashion!”

Despite Bowie’s ever-changing stage personas and Iman’s high-fashion image, the couple kept their private relationship separate from what they showed the world. “We both understand the difference between the person and the persona. When we are home we are just Iman and David. We’re not anybody else,” she said.

She also revealed the secret to a lasting marriage: timing. “You have to be at the right time in your life that you’re ready for an everlasting relationship, that it becomes first and a priority in your life,” she said. "If your career is important to you, don’t get married and have children, because something will give. I know we as women, we want to be able to have it all, but we can’t have it all at the same time. So make your priority of what you want at that time.”

Iman also talked about her own work-life balance these days. She goes into her office daily to look at new products, make selections and organize photo shoots for her cosmetics company and clothing line, but by 3 p.m., she’s in full mom mode.

Since her husband’s death, Iman has been putting on a brave face for her daughter, a source previously told Us Weekly. “Iman is torn apart,” the source said. “Iman is staying strong for Lexi.”
