Inside the Kim Kardashian Robbery: Everything We Know So Far

UPDATE 1/15/16 3:10 p.m. ET: Kim Kardashian slowly began to resurface in the public eye in December, stepping out to dinner with Kanye West, as well as her mom Kris Jenner‘s annual Christmas Eve party. She officially returned to social media on January 3 after a three-month silence and shared a series of adorable family photos with West and their kids, North and Saint, on Instagram and Twitter.

Several suspects were arrested in France on January 9 in connection with the robbery case, including two chauffeurs who drove Kardashian around Paris in October. One of the drivers, Michael Madar, was later released without charges. A total of 10 suspects have been charged so far, and police maintain that the crime was an inside job.

French newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche published Kardashian’s reported police statement on January 15, in which she detailed the harrowing raid. “[One of the men] took out a gun and I showed him the ring,” she said, according to the paper. “He had gloves. He asked me where the jewels and the money were. And at that point, they tied me up and put plastic cables and Scotch tape on my hands, and then taped my mouth and my legs.”

UPDATE 10/6 8:38 p.m. ET: Days after Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint in Paris, law enforcement believe that there are inconsistencies in the story told by the concierge at the building the reality star was staying at. “What’s confusing to police is how a low-ranking night staffer had such easy key access to the VIP apartments,” an insider tells Us

According to The Hollywood Reporter, there’s also footage of a mysterious limo that police are investigating. THR reported on Thursday, October 6, that police have recovered surveillance camera footage from a shoe store across the street from the luxury apartment building where Kardashian was sleeping when five men disguised as police officers attacked her, taking off with $10 million worth of jewels.

The CCTV footage shows a black limo with tinted windows passing the building three times at 2:34 a.m., 2:45 a.m. and 2:54 a.m. Us previously reported that Kardashian was robbed early Monday morning and after having her hands bound and being locked in a bathroom, called her bodyguard for help at 2:56 a.m.

A September 27 interview with Andy Cohen also resurfaced on Thursday. During their Girls’ Lounge Dinner chat (which was part of Advertising Week 2016), Kardashian told Cohen the story behind her upgraded engagement ring, which the thieves stole during the raid.

The Selfish author told the Watch What Happens Live host that her husband, Kanye West, gifted her with the ring after he singed his mega Adidas deal.

UPDATE 10/5: 7:33 p.m. ET: Kim Kardashian‘s BFF Jonathan Cheban opened up about how his friend was doing after being held up at gunpoint in Paris. “Not so good,” he said as he entered the reality star’s NYC apartment on Tuesday, October 4.

As more details from the terrifying incident surface, it’s easy to understand why the Selfish author, 35, would be so shaken. A source told Us that her neighbors in Paris “did not hear a thing when she was screaming for help” during the robbery, and that the culprits — five men disguised as law enforcement — did not leave any traces of DNA at the crime scene.

The incident seems to have been a wakeup call for the social media maven. An insider told Us that that this has been a “life-changing event,” and that Kardashian now “realizes she was living in a bubble. … Now she knows she was so naive.”

UPDATE 10/4 11:08 p.m. ET: Kim Kardashian was reportedly followed by men pretending to be paparazzi hours before she was robbed at gunpoint, according to the Daily Mail. The site reports that an unidentified man was tailgating the reality star as she left a fitting with Kanye West and Kourtney Kardashian on Sunday. The same man was later spotted outside her apartment, and also at a restaurant she dined at. The site described the men as “Caucasian” and “North African,” and reported that they “posed as a plain-clothed detective and as a photographer.”

UPDATE 10/4 8:10 p.m. ET: A Paris police source told Us that there are concerns the robbery may have been an inside job. “Detectives are satisfied that the robbers could have easily tricked their way into Kardashian’s apartment block, [but] it is not clear how they got into her actual flat,” the insider said.

As for the massive $4.5 million diamond ring that the burglars stole as part of the estimated $10 million heist? Brett Stettner, chairman of Stettner Diamond Investments, told Us that the likelihood of recovering the ring are “slim to none,” as the thieves are likely to cut up the diamond and resell it.

While many celebrities have spoken out in support of the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star after her terrifying ordeal, Karl Lagerfeld scolded her instead. “I don’t understand why she was in a hotel with no security,” the Chanel creative director told Reuters. “If you are that famous and you put all your jewelry on the net, you go to hotels where nobody can come near to the room. You cannot display your wealth and then be surprised that some people want to share it with you.”

Caitlin Jenner also spoke out on Tuesday, but it was to support her stepdaughter after the athlete initially received criticism for sharing what some considered an insensitive Instagram post Monday about spending time with Kylie Jenner without addressing the incident. “After hearing the full story, I’m so thankful she’s OK,” the former Olympian captioned a photo of Kardashian. “It’s a reminder for us all to be careful in the uncertainty of this world.”

UPDATE 10/4 12:20 p.m. ET: Kanye West rescheduled two of his Saint Pablo tour dates for December “due to family concerns,” Live Nation said in a statement Monday, October 3.

Hours after the robbery, a source told Us Weekly that Kardashian’s close friend and stylist Simone Harouche was in the Paris apartment during the raid. She was “in her room sleeping” when she heard noises and called Kardashian’s bodyguard Pascal Duvier, the insider said. According to the Associated Press, the robbery assailants are still at large 24 hours after the attack.

UPDATE 10/3 9:30 p.m. ET: According to a source, Kim Kardashian — who was in bed and dressed in only a bathrobe at the time of the raid — feared for her life during the robbery.

“She thought there was going to be a sexual assault or that she was going to be killed in the bathroom,” the source told Us of the horrifying experience, explaining that after bounding Kardashian’s hands with zip ties, the thieves carried her into the bathroom. “They did not speak English. Kim was hysterically crying, begging for her life, telling them about her babies.”

“In her head, at that minute in the bathroom, she thought her life was over,” the source added. “There was a gun on her the whole time. She was begging them not to kill her.”

To keep her from screaming, the insider said that the intruders then “gagged her … covering her mouth but not her nose” with tape. They left her in the bathroom as they took off with her jewelry, estimated to be worth $10 million.

UPDATE 10/3 5:49 p.m. ET: Hours after the terrifying incident, Kim Kardashian reunited with husband Kanye West in New York City on Monday, October 3. The reality star was greeted by West at Teterboro Airport around 11 a.m., sources told Us Weekly. The couple were then escorted back to their apartment downtown in a 15-car motorcade.

Kardashian, 35, was also reunited with their two kids, North, 3, and Saint, 9 months, who were safely in NYC when the Selfish author was robbed at gunpoint early Monday morning in Paris.

According to a rep for Matilda the Musical, North attended a matinee performance of the Broadway show with two other children, a nanny and a security guard on Sunday, October 2. “They sat in the audience and then afterward, North came backstage and met the kids in the company, including the girl who played Matilda,” the rep told Us. “A good time was had by all!”

As police continue to investigate Kardashian’s terrifying incident, a source told Us that the social media maven doesn’t have any plans to fire her longtime bodyguard, Pascal Duvier, who was not present during the robbery.

“Pascal was with Kourtney and Kendall at L’Arc Nightclub. Kim felt safe at the apartment by herself,” the insider tells Us of Duvier’s whereabouts. “Kim is not blaming Pascal. She felt completely safe at the Paris apartment and doesn’t believe this is his fault in any way.”

The E! personality was last seen entering her NYC apartment with West Monday morning. Her massive diamond ring — which was reportedly stolen by the thieves — was noticeably missing from her ring finger.

iPhone security expert Andrew McDonnell told Us Weekly on Monday that the burglars, who also reportedly took two iPhones believed to belong to Kardashian, will likely not be able to obtain personal information if the reality star’s devices were set with pass codes.

“For newer iPhones, the bottom line is that a strong pass code makes it nearly impossible for thieves to steal data,” McDonnell told Us. “If someone mugs you, takes your phone, or it’s stolen out of your hotel room, or you leave it in a movie theater, without the pass code, any iPhone from the past few years — I’m sure Kim Kardashian’s was that new — it’s going be extremely difficult to get data out of the phone without the pass code. And to make it impossible, you can lock the iPhone or erase it remotely using Apple’s ‘Find My iPhone’ Web application.”

E! told Us in a statement on Monday that KUWTK cameras were not rolling during the incident either.

“All of us at E! are incredibly thankful that Kim Kardashian West is safe, and we send her and her family our love and support,” the statement read. “Keeping Up With the Kardashians was not filming at the time of the robbery. Our focus right now is entirely on Kim’s well-being.”

UPDATE 10/3 1:30 p.m. ET: A Paris police official tells Us Weekly that the five robbers were spotted escaping on bicycles after their organized raid. A local bar employee adds, “[Kim has] been popping in and out all the time during fashion week. … Unfortunately, too many people seem to know that she lives here.”

Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris, also addressed the incident in a statement on Monday, saying Kardashian will “always be welcome in Paris.” Hidalgo said she’s confident that police will find those responsible, noting that the robbery “in no way calls into question police work or security of public space” in Paris.

Kim Kardashian was left “badly shaken but physically unharmed” according to her rep, after a terrifying ordeal on Monday, October 3, when she was robbed at gunpoint inside her Paris, France, apartment. Now Us Weekly has exclusive new details of the crime in the video above, and detailed below.

The official tells Us the ordeal started at around 2:25 a.m. when the gang entered her luxury apartment block on Rue Tronchet in the 8th Arrondissement, close to the British Embassy in Paris.

A male concierge was handcuffed, tied up, gagged and hidden in a cupboard in the stairwell of the building.

The criminals then made their way up to the apartment purchased by Kanye West, where Kim had just finished a FaceTime call with her brother Rob Kardashian.

Parisian police believe much of the stolen jewelry — including a ring and contents of a jewelry box — was from Kim’s personal collection, while some pieces had been borrowed for Paris Fashion Week. Two iPhones believed to be Kim’s were also stolen.

Police estimate the jewelry was worth 10 million euros, telling Us: “There is still a lot of work to do in the investigation.”

At this time officials believe the crime was committed by a “highly organized” gang who had done a great deal of planning before the raid.

After the robbery Kim was comforted at the apartment around 4:30 a.m. by sister Kendall Jenner, who was in town along with sister Kourtney Kardashian and mom Kris Jenner.

Shortly thereafter, Kim flew out of Paris from Le Bourget airport on a private jet at approximately 9:30 a.m.

The apartment has been surrounded by police since the crime, and forensic officers were this morning seen looking for clues as to who is responsible for the robbery.

He is said to have gained access to a restaurant where she and her family were dining earlier this week by posing as a policeman.

Meanwhile in NYC, Kanye West learned of the incident while performing at Meadows Festival in Queens, New York.

The 39-year-old was only 45 minutes into his set when he abruptly walked off the stage, leaving tens of thousands of concertgoers angry and confused.

“I’m sorry, I have a family emergency. I have to stop the show,” West said seconds after starting his 2008 hit “Heartless.” He then cut the music and rushed off stage as the lights went out. You can watch the unexpected moment from the concert in the video above.

Their daughter, North, 3, and 9-month-old son Saint, are not believed to have been in the room at the time of the robbery.

Earlier in the week Kim had another scare when prankster Vitalii Sediuk slipped past her security and tried to kiss her famous backside.

She was arriving at L’Avenue restaurant on September, Wednesday 28, when he ran over and tried to assault her.

Us reported that Kim is planning on pressing charges.
