Katie Holmes may have filed for divorce from Tom Cruise Thursday, but two weeks earlier — during Father's Day weekend — the couple, and their 6-year-old daughter, Suri, were the picture of a happy family.
Dining out at Sushi Samba in Iceland's capital city of Reykjavik June 16, Cruise and Holmes munched on small plates with items including volcano rolls and avocado fries while they doted on little Suri.
"They both looked after Suri and she was getting the main attention at the table, but Tom and Katie would look at each other and smile," an eyewitness at the restaurant told Us Weekly of the Cruises. "They were like all the young families that come in here. It's almost impossible to think they're getting divorced because they seemed very happy that night."
Indeed, Holmes, 33, filed for divorce Thursday, in a move that appeared to shock her husband of five years, 49.
"Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children. Please allow them their privacy," a statement released Friday by Cruise's rep read.
In her filing, Holmes — who rented a New York City apartment in her own name weeks before submitting divorce papers — requested sole custody of Suri.
Cruise is also dad to Connor, 17, and Isabella, 19, with ex Nicole Kidman.
