Ivanka Trump: Chelsea Clinton and I ‘Never Talked About Politics Before This Campaign’

Unlikely pals! Ivanka Trump revealed that she’s never chatted about politics with pal Chelsea Clinton  — and she has no plans to, either — during a segment of Fox’s On the Record With Greta Van Susteren. While Ivanka has been supporting her father, Donald Trump, and Chelsea has been campaigning for her mother, Hillary Clinton, they’ve put differences aside for their friendship.

“We have a great respect for each other, and that hasn’t changed,” the fashion designer, 34, said on Tuesday, August 2. “She’s a great girl and she’s been a great friend to me. And obviously the intensity and scrutiny of this moment in our lives is pretty extreme.”

Despite all the insults throughout the presidential campaign, Ivanka said they’ve been able to stay friends. “We’ve stayed close to one another, maybe a little less publicly so, but she’s a good friend. We support each other,” the mom of three said. “We’re not the candidates. We’re the children of the candidates, and we both respect our parents.”

Throughout the years of living in New York City and bonding over motherhood, the topic of politics has never come up. “We never talked about politics before this campaign, and I think it’s probably a good topic to avoid talking about now,” Ivanka said, adding that they will “absolutely” be friends after the election.

The Republican presidential candidate, 70, said last week at a Colorado rally that he wishes his daughter wasn’t friendly with Chelsea, 36. “You know Chelsea likes Ivanka and Ivanka likes Chelsea. I wish they didn’t like each other but they do,” he told the crowd. “It’s easier if they don’t like each other. You would think that relationship would be strained, but they like each other!”

According to Politico, the bipartisan friends were introduced by their husbands (Ivanka is married to Jared Kushner and Chelsea is married to Marc Mezvinsky) a few years ago, and they have attended similar social events in New York City.

Back in February, Chelsea praised Ivanka in an interview with Vogue, even comparing the businesswoman to her own father, Bill Clinton. “She’s always aware of everyone around her and ensuring that everyone is enjoying the moment,” she said. “It’s an awareness that in some ways reminds me of my dad, and his ability to increase the joy of the room. There’s nothing skin-deep about Ivanka. And that’s a real tribute to her because certainly anyone as gorgeous as she is could have probably gone quite far being skin-deep.”
