James Van Der Beek may forever be thought of as Dawson Leery to his fans, but the actor's stint on Dawson's Creek is long gone in his opinion!
While chatting with HuffPost Live on Monday, Sept. 15, the WB alum said it feels like it was a "lifetime ago" when he was a teen heartthrob alongside costars Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson and Michelle Williams.
Now 37 and taking on the role of an FBI agent who is an expert in battlefield forensics in the upcoming CBS series CSI: Cyber, Van Der Beek shared that the transition from the iconic teen role wasn't that big of a deal for him.
"It's so funny, it just seems like something so far away, it seems like another lifetime in my experience," the dad of three said of the six-season teen drama. "I never felt tied to that character but I think enough time has passed," the Friends With Better Lives star added of fans accepting him in other roles.
"I've never had a problem with audiences buying me as something different [either]," he continued. "In the beginning, it made me work harder to be that much more specific [with] the character choices I make."
