Revenge of the ex? Not so much. In 2009, January Jones told GQ that her first boyfriend in Hollywood, assumed by the interviewer at the time to be Ashton Kutcher, responded to her dream of acting by saying, “I don’t think you’re going to be good.”
But when a caller on the Thursday, September 29, episode of Watch What Happens Live asked the Last Man on Earth star, 38, if she’s since spoken to the actor, 38, about his remarks, Jones had nothing but positive comments about the dad of Wyatt, 23 months.
“I haven’t talked to him,” the mom of 5-year-old Xander told host Andy Cohen. “I’m superhappy for him and his family, to be political and all that.”
The Mad Men alum also clarified that she never explicitly named Kutcher — who wed his former That ’70s Show costar Mila Kunis in 2015 — as the ex in question to the GQ reporter.
“I said that someone I had dated previously wasn’t encouraging of my acting — not that I couldn’t,” Jones explained. “I don’t know if that person had ever actually seen me act. But the person who wrote the interview did the math and thought it might be him; I never really said who it was.”
Indeed, her quote in the article read: “The guy I was dating when I first got to L.A. was not supportive of my acting. He was like, I don’t think you’re going to be good at this. So — F–K you! He only has nice things to say now — if anything, I should thank him. Because the minute you tell me I can’t do something, that’s when I’m most motivated.”
When pressed by Cohen, 48, to confirm whether Kutcher was the naysaying ex, Jones laughed off the question.
